PHP Version Upgrade Required

Wordpress and any Wordpress Plugins or Themes that are in use on your website are written in the PHP language. From time to time the PHP language vendor updates the available versions and stops providing security and support for older versions.

Best practices recommend that your website must be periodically updated to insure compatibility with the currently available PHP versions.

The currently available PHP versions are 7.4, 8.0, and 8.1. Most of our customers are using version 7.4 or version 8.0.

As of November 28, 2022, PHP version 7.4 will no longer be supported for security updates by the Vendor.  This means that if your site is using PHP 7.4, your site could be vulnerable to security compromises due to new security issues discovered after November 28, 2022.

To check your site PHP version, log in to your Wordpress dashboard, then click Tools -> Site Health -> Info -> Server and your PHP version is listed under 'PHP version'. If the PHP version is 8.1 or higher, you do not need to take any action on upgrading PHP at this time.

What you need to do:

If your PHP version is 8.0, you should contact your website administrator regarding upgrading to PHP8.1. Version 8.0 is supported until November 2023.

If your PHP version is less than 8.0, you must upgrade your PHP version to 8.0 or 8.1 prior to November 28, 2022.

If you are utilizing our Wordpress update service - we will update your Wordpress site for compatibility with PHP8.0 or higher. We will review your site and advise if any plugins or themes need to be updated. In some cases you will need to purchase updates to these plugins or themes, or utilize a different plugin or theme if there are no updates available. We will advise if any billable services are required.

If you manage your own Wordpress updates, please check your plugins and themes if the vendor has verified compatibility with PHP8.0 or higher. If not, please contact the plugin or theme vendor to determine if they will be releasing an update prior to Nov 28 2022.  Please make sure these updates are installed prior to updating your PHP version to avoid compatibility issues with PHP8.

If you do not manage your own Wordpress updates, please forward this message to your website administrator or developer. If you do not have a website administrator or developer, we can advise on your site's current Wordpress core, plugin, and theme software versions and make recommendations for updates. Please email techsupp@telainc.com for assistance or open a support ticket in our TelaInc.com portal.
